The Artist
Faris Heizer
Artist
“My paintings highlight the quiet, stillness and comfort found in the mundane. I think I’m most known for the fuzzy renderings in my paintings. I would call my paintings extensions of myself—how I think and feel about things, being a person existing in Singapore.”
The Work in Motion
“I’m really excited for Art SG. That’s normally where I get to engage in meaningful conversations with people who sometimes don’t even go to art events, so it’s really cool to hear an ‘outsider’s’ perspective from time to time. I also have a couple of shows planned overseas this year, but fingers crossed it happens! I feel like, as a person, after I found something I could fixate myself on in my early teens, there was no turning back. What keeps me going is the thought of being able to improve my craft as an artist and become more intelligent in the execution of my ideas in the future.”

The Uniform
“I’m wearing a Yohji Yamamoto shirt I found at a curated vintage store, paired with Graphzero jeans, GH Bass Weejuns loafers, a Seiko Alpinist watch, and accessories collected from travelling. For the other look, I’m in a Comme des Garçons blazer, a thrifted Duchamp polka dot top, a brown top by Kolor, Graphzero jeans, and Topshop boots, with accessories again gathered from my travels. The clothes I wore for the shoot resonate with my current style and vibe. I’ve always been drawn to timeless pieces like selvedge jeans and a good button-up shirt, but lately I’ve been trying to introduce items that stand out a little more while still keeping an overall silhouette that suits me.”

The Ritual
“Wearing nice things makes me feel confident. Maybe the fixation on wanting to look good influences my work subconsciously—I’m not really too sure— but I guess what I wear says a lot about me. I keep it simple: if I like it, I wear it. Just like how I paint—simple.”
