When the comedy-drama, Emily in Paris made its Netflix debut last year, it quickly found itself trending on social media. With fans all over the world watching for both its transfixing plotline and hours of endless fashion inspiration, it was undeniably a resounding success. It was no surprise then that just 28 days after its launch the Darren Star production was watched by a staggering 58 million people.
For those who have missed out on the series’ first season, here is a little synopsis of what happens. Set in, you guessed it, Paris, the show follows American marketing executive Emily Cooper who leaves her life in Chicago behind for the job of her dreams. Her innate American-ness makes her a fish out of water which is cleverly accentuated by her bold and often ringarde fashion choices.
Expertly curated by Patricia Field, the stylist behind Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada, Emily’s love of prints, pattern-clashing and hats are a source of sartorial glee for viewers. Her looks, however, go unappreciated by her new boss, Sylvie, who embodies an understated sense of style.
As the protagonist settles into her new life abroad, she quickly befriends zipper heiress Mindy, a bubbly and vibrant character whose bold personality translates into daring, playful and often sexy fashion choices. She also forms a friendship with sophisticated city girl Camille, who in comparison goes for quieter, more minimalist ensembles.
Over the course of the season, we witness a continuous stream of scene-stealing looks as Emily and her new companions attempt to navigate their careers, friendships and love lives. So what can we expect in this brand new season, both in plot and style? We are now just a few hours away from knowing for sure, but in the meantime, here’s our guide to emulating scene-stealing looks as seen on the show’s female characters: Emily, Mindy, Camille and Sylvie.
