Chances are, most would have heard the term ‘coquettecore’ by now. After all, the Internet has been abuzz with people wrapping beautiful strands of curling ribbon around, well, everything. From fashion to food, it seems that anything that can be adorned with a bow, has been adorned with one (or multiple)—and our living spaces are no different.
On the surface, coquettecore might seem like it’s all about ribbons and pink, but the aesthetic goes beyond that. Derived from the word ‘coquette’—which describes a flirtatious woman—the trend is all about embracing femininity. The latest in a line of trends that places the focus on embodying girlhood, it shares the same florals as cottagecore without the quaint countryside feel, and trades the hot pink hues of Barbiecore for more pastel shades.
Taking its cues from the romantic era, coquettecore reinterprets these influences in clean, modern ways. Pastel colours, floral prints and vintage ornamentations define the aesthetic, along with soft, warm lighting to evoke the cosiness of candlelight and sheer fabrics like lace and tulle to finish out the look. Think Bridgerton, or a modern-day Marie Antoinette. For each room in the home, we curate a selection of furniture and decor that lean into the coquettecore look—with plenty of bows included, of course.
