If there’s a mood and colour on everyone’s mind this season, it’s certainly a lime green-tinged brat girl summer. And there’s one person to thank: Charli XCX. The pop star—and Vogue Singapore cover star—has turned into something of a pop culture juggernaut since the release of her sixth and latest studio album Brat.
More than just dance floor bops and catchy tunes, Brat has taken on a life of its own. Meme formats. New dances on TikTok. A mend-the-beef remix with Lorde that nearly broke the internet. Brat has been the subject of analysis of themes as tender as girlhood, or as straightforwardly riotous as partying all night long.
A lot of these brat-isms are a state of mind, mood thing. What is clearly and visually brat, though, is the distinct shade of green that is the album cover. Somewhere between acid and lime green, it’s a wonderfully obnoxious colour that manages to be spunky and playful at the same time.
And, well, a colour’s the easiest thing to tap into when it comes to dressing for a moment.
