The Serpent Bohème collection by Boucheron, with its drop-shaped snake head motif, is inspired by a snake jewel that founder Frédéric Boucheron created in 1888. Meant as a token of love and security for his wife while he was away for work, it has so far been re-interpreted as a line of elegant, understated jewels.

Until now, at least. This year, the maison is turning the collection’s delicateness on its head with the introduction of Serpent Bohème Vintage, a new line in the collection with bolder volumes and, yes, a vintage aesthetic. Chunky chain styles on necklaces, bracelets and earrings are detailed with the collection’s signature snakeskin gold texture, and linked with pavé double-drop motifs and beaded gold links.

On a selection of rings, the snake head motif is rendered in a floral arrangement with bulbous, three-dimensional pavé diamond centres. One of the collection’s standouts is the gloriously outsized cuff in brushed, satin-finished gold and set with diamonds. Vogue’s take: a big, bold and unabashed dose of style in the va-va-voom spirit of ’70s statement jewels.
