The haute couture spring/summer 2022 shows arrived at just the right time. We have been treated to a bevy of presentations exhibiting the most intricate and sophisticated of garments; a romantic, escapist fantasy that is much-needed amidst the doubt and precariousness surrounding recent events. New COVID-19 variants are cropping up with fevered intensity, with new mandates and restrictions implemented every day—and so, there seems no better time to get away than by immersing ourselves into the fantastical worlds created by our favourite designers.
Sartorial moments aside, the haute couture spring/summer 2022 shows prove to be a goldmine of beauty inspiration as well. This is clear to see in how designers have paired up with makeup maestros to help bring their vision to life. Take Italian luxury label, Schiaparelli, for one. Creative director Daniel Roseberry tapped Pat McGrath—the mother of make-up herself—to line the model’s peepers in whorls of intense black liner, of which is interspersed with hints of glitter and gold that are very much in-line with the celestial and planetary theme. Time-honoured fashion houses such as Dior and Chanel, on the other hand, called in their image directors—big names Peter Phillips and Lucia Pica—to bring forth their expertise and exceptional technical skills to said endeavour.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We’ve gathered a curation of the most inspiring beauty moments from the haute couture spring/summer 2022 presentations so far, ranging from the intriguing and abstract eyeshadow spotted at Chanel to the vivid slashes of white eyeliner at Dior. See it all, below.

Christian Dior
We’d dub this a topsy-turvy take on classic winged eyeliner. Instead of conventional ink-black flicks, Dior has opted for crisp white strokes that extend exclusively from the lower lid. A statement-maker, indeed.
Score this look with the Dior Forever Foundation, the Diorshow On Stage Liner #001 in Matte White, the Diorshow Khol #009 in White Khol, and the Dior Rouge Lip Balm.

Chanel
Chanel presents their take on the latest—and coolest—superhero masks. Bonus: There’s no danger of this one slipping off if you have a good setting spray on hand.

Chanel
The solution when your dark circles are impossible to conceal? Lean into it, but make it glittery.

Schiaparelli
For those with a shaky hand, forego liner and opt for a soft smokey eye in matte black to achieve the same intensity.

Schiaparelli
Add some edge to a low braided bun by incorporating hair rings into the mix.

Celia Kritharioti
The Greek fashion house proves that you don’t have to be precious—or too precise—about make-up to make an impression. Coloured mascara and a corresponding eyeshadow does the trick, too.

Elie Saab
Create the impression of long, fluttery lashes that are about to take flight by situating your falsies solely at the tail-end of your eyelid.

Stéphane Rolland
There’s no better way to up the intensity of a smokey eye than by extending its wing way past the brow bone.
10 / 15
Valentino
Talk about full, feathered, and fluffy lashes—in every sense of the word.

Valentino
Strike a perfect equilibrium with your make-up by pairing a dark lip with clean, crisp eyeliner.

Alexis Mabille
Banish the archaic thought that gold on gold is OTT. French fashion designer Alexis Mabille’s rendition of Midas-touched lids are bold without overpowering the rest of the make-up.

Fendi
If you needed further proof that 2022 is all about going big or going home, we recommend you take a look at this elevated take on the faux freckles trend. Enter: face jewels.

Jean Paul Gautier
Juxtapose vivid scarlet-rimmed lids by foregoing any lipstick or brow make-up. The contrast makes for a visually-arresting sight.

Viktor & Rolf
Clearly more is more at V&R. We fully expect to see Cardi B rocking this blush-and-talons combination in her next music video.
