The fashion world pays tribute to André Leon Talley

André Leon Talley’s death weighs heavy on the fashion world, which has lost a true trailblazer in every sense of the world. The influential journalist and former US Vogue editor-at-large used his platform to pioneer change and promote diversity in an industry that has not been known for giving everyone a seat at the table. With a childlike joy around all things fashion, an exceptional knowledge of history, and a knack for delivering deliciously good bon mots, he was a larger-than-life character like no other.

“I’d like people to see something in me that’s special, unique and grounded in education and southern America,” Talley told Vogue upon the release of his fabulously flamboyant high-fashion biopic, The Gospel According to André, in 2018. As the tributes pour in from the designers, stylists, models and editors whose careers Talley helped shape, there can be no doubt that he will be remembered for his originality. Moreover, André Leon Talley helped everyone to dream big.
