10-word show review: Daring and conceptual pieces for the fashion-forward risk taker.

The vision: The buzz surrounding Acne Studios fall/winter 2023 show was palpable. After all, Kylie Jenner had graced the brand’s spring/summer 2023 show in September of last year, donning a bodycon grey dress with spiked silver earrings. This season, however, the show’s celebrity factor took a back seat. Hosted at the unassuming Lycée Carnot, a public secondary and higher education school, guests walked into an Acne Studios forest steeped in inky black sand, out of which sparkling vines and tendrils appeared. Jared Leto’s appearance ignited a brief jolt, which quickly simmered into the beauty of the space.
Signature style: Johansson’s ethos—or relaxed lack of it—is clear. While the brand has upheld an undeniable cult following over the years, each season sees a few new notches added to the circuit. An older iteration of Acne Studios might have coasted on its Scandinavian cool sensibilities, but it has now taken on an international and assorted appeal. Case in point? Slip dresses riffed at the hems, distressed leather co-ords and statement shoes—in the form of elf-like boots and spiral open-toed heels—that defy origin. Barely-there, sheared black dresses reflected a Parisian coolness and heavy-set trench coats, a British charm. The very vines that formed the set’s decor also found themselves on models in green glory.
What to shop from the collection: Though the lineup is conceptual, there are many pieces that are equally as wearable and season-defying. The collection’s leather jackets made a case for themselves as the most enduring option and came in heapings of rich browns and blacks. Taking things slightly off course was the collection’s structural trench coat. Look 7, in particular, solidifies its appeal. And if your motto for the year is to take more fashion risks, Looks 2 and 3 are worth trying your hand at.
