Something definitely ain’t right, because how is XG doing it all? The supersonic septet has been an increasingly familiar name; if not for their intensely diverse discography that surprises us at every turn, then for their impeccably well-coordinated style. Just two months ago, the girls released ‘Woke Up’, a deliciously animalistic track that goes full-throttle on the rap. It had the convincing visuals for it too, as each of the members—namely Jurin, Cocona, Maya, Juria, Harvey, Hinata and Chisa—were vividly transformed to match its savagery. Today, the septet has decidedly pivoted to release another single, a pre-release from their promised second mini album slated to reach us later this year. Enter: ‘Something Ain’t Right’.
A track that’ll have you rubbing shoulders on the dancefloor; hips swaying side to side. With a distinctively nostalgic sound that’s right out of the aughts, it’s got all the makings of a dance track that’s every bit as ecstatic, fun and upbeat as a groovy summer beat. Certainly enough, its accompanying music video lives up to the vibes of the song.
As if the septet’s dulcet tones and addictive refrains were not already enough, it’s safe to say that it is the group’s overall visual direction that truly has us mesmerised. We’re talking poppy, colourful costumes that truly put the fun into the choreography, and some serious beauty swerves we could spend hours lusting over. And if you’re asking us? The eyes have it. Think strategic crystal and pearl arrangements all over the peepers. Or the abstract, almost alien-esque liners drawn on Cocona and Maya. Perhaps even the electrifying wash of crimson infused into Jurin’s lashes. But don’t just take our word for it. Below, peruse the most breathtaking hair and make-up moments from XG’s ‘Something Ain’t Right’ MV, because we just can’t get enough of them.

Hypnotic maze
Nothing much, just getting lost in Maya’s eyes. From the colour-swap contacts to the beautiful navy maze around her peepers—drawn to match the swirling pattern of her top—she certainly got our attention right from the get go.

Streaky freaky
Leave it to Cocona—who’s since bleached her buzz cut—to dole out yet another avant-garde beauty moment. Cue a dystopian mask of wild black streaks across her peepers.

Red on red on red on red
It’s a crimson wave for Jurin—whose already distinctive mane is matched to her fire-streaked lashes, whilst flowers of every manner adorn her mane.

Colour twister
If there could be anyone who could pull off this beautiful, wild mess of colours, it would be Chisa. From her divine two-toned pout and her aqua-lemon lids to those metallic coils wrapping the ends of her tresses, this picture-perfect capture delivers the whole brief, and then some.

Starry-eyed pirate
Juria’s unaware of what’s soon to happen, and her fresh-faced innocence is conveyed through the lilting palette she’s covered in. Cue tonal pastels all over, pink contacts, a splash of rosy blush and the final cementing touch altogether: some extremely necessary aegyo sal.

The eyes have it
As the girls groove to the beat around the road junction, each one of them are spotted with a different variation of crystallised eyes. Some lean gold and white, some reach the nose bridge, and others, like Hinata’s look as if they were alien forms just waking up from a long hibernation.

A brat(z) summer
No one better than Harvey to do summer right. Whilst the hue of the season (hint: an extremely blatant neon green) isn’t in the cards for this MV, we’re thinking that glittering Bratz pink enlivening her pout certainly comes close.

Metamorphosis in progress
As the final shot in the MV, this look held power on its own. As if to hint at the ongoing metamorphosis of XG as a whole, Jurin’s mien sees a cascade of pearls carefully arranged around her eyes to mirror the image of a butterfly. That cool-girl flipped bob certainly earns her points too.
