For Bottega Veneta’s spring/summer showing last year, creative director Matthieu Blazy put a focus on craft and was arguably one of the pillars of runway fashion’s renewed obsession with quiet luxury. The shown looks were all simple and refined with a twist in tactility—the use of leather on what looked like flannel, denim and even cotton t-shirts added a whimsical and fun nature in a luxe manner. That same nature is felt in the environment of the show as well, with 82-year-old Italian design pioneer Gaetano Pesce enlisted to conjure colourful swirling resin floors and unique chairs to match. The tasteful collection pushed the envelopes of the potential of quiet luxury–something that’s been seen as a modus operandi in Blazy’s work for Bottega Veneta.
This time, spring/summer 2024 brings about his fourth showing for the brand as creative director. The same injection of fun and balance between freedom and restraint is sure to be expected. Keep an eye out for the designer’s penchant for subliminal trompe l’oeil, structured silhouettes and unparalleled fabrics that have earned the Italian label its reputation.
