After Valentino’s last haute couture show—with models suspended in the air, trailing metres of fabric down to the ground—it’s safe to say that Pierpaolo Piccioli knows how to put on a spectacle, even through the digital medium. For the spring/summer 2021 couture season, the inventive creative director has given it the theme, ‘Code Temporal’ and will feature a dialogue between Piccioli and British artist Robert Del Naja.
The presentation will be filmed at the Galleria Colonna, Sala Grande, in Rome, which plays an important role in the film created by Del Naja. According to the house, it is a “cut-up collagist script” drawing on footage from Valentino’s couture-making process, “filmed and observed by machine learning algorithms and spontaneously edited by neural networks trained by Del Naja’s collaborative partner, neural artist Mario Klingemman.”
To see how this discourse between the digital and physical plays out, tune in tonight at 10pm Singapore time to watch the Valentino haute couture spring/summer 2021 show.
