A force of fashion in the 2000s, Tao Okamoto was a name to know in a time when Asian representation on the international stage was still finding its footing. Charismatic, confident and captivating on the runway, she had to discover herself anew when she made her notable pivot to acting.

Now fronting Vogue Singapore's November 'Soft Power' issue, the Japanese actress and model reflects on her evolution, embracing more complicated parts of herself through acting and redefining success through a new lens. Her journey has led her to her latest achievement at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where she shares the Best Actress award with Virginie Efira for their work in Ryusuke Hamaguchi's 'All of a Sudden'.
