There’s a new Saint Laurent bag that proponents of French-girl style are lusting after—and honorary Parisienne Hailey Bieber is a fan. The LA-resident is a proud wearer of YSL accessories, namely the croc-embossed Elise shoulder bag, the cross-body Cassandra style, the Solferino, the Vicky camera bag and the Kaia satchel (named after fellow supermodel, Kaia Gerber). Now, the maison’s new Le Maillon style has taken her fancy—Bieber was spotted taking it for a spin ahead of Valentine’s day.
Building upon the brand’s expansive repertoire of timeless leather goods, which includes the Lou Lou, Downtown and Manhattan styles, creative director Anthony Vaccarello has introduced a fresh—and highly covetable—purse for spring/summer 2021.
Unveiled earlier this year via a short clip shot by David Sims that features rising Saint Laurent muse Aylah Peterson, the house’s Le Maillon bag is fast becoming an Instagram sensation. Kate Moss was also captured modelling the accessory by Juergen Teller for an additional campaign. Practical cross-body styles have become popular with Instagram It-girls, so it’s no surprise that the Le Maillon has made the wish lists of the likes of Camille Charrière, Sophia Roe and Jen Azoulay.
Fashioned from sleek, soft calf’s leather, the Le Maillon—which translates to “the link”—features a gold chain hardware magnetic closure, a buckled adjustable strap and a trio of rectangular compartments. In keeping with her love of all black YSL buys, Hailey chose the smooth black colourway, but it’s available in a range of other colours, including an earthy brick hue, zesty mustard and dark green.
