There’s a new place in town for the finest pearls around. Japanese jeweller Mikimoto has just opened a new boutique in Singapore at Takashimaya Shopping Centre. It’s the brand’s second boutique in the city, joining now its longstanding outpost at Marina Bay Sands.
The new Mikimoto boutique is spacious—at 1,943 square feet, it’s more than double the size of the space at Marina Bay Sands—and is designed with a calm, elegant luxury experience in mind that, naturally, draws inspiration from pearls. It features gallery-style vitrines to showcase one-of-a-kind high jewellery designs, and cozy, private areas to better take in the jewels.
A subtle but appreciable touch is the way Mikimoto has taken inspiration from the calm waters in which its famous pearls are cultured. A plush blue carpet evokes those very waters, champagne-gold accents recall dappled sunlight over placid waves, and pearlescent finishes in the decor create a soft, inviting glow to the space. A centrepiece sculptural ceiling installation anchors the boutique, with a suggestion of movement in its form that encourages one to explore the space.
Mikimoto’s new boutique showcases the full breadth of the brand’s fine jewellery collections. There are a host of modern designs such as the sweet and elegant Bow Charm, the floral Les Pétales Place Vendôme Rosés, the graphic V Code, the fortuitous Lucky Arrows, and of course classic, timeless pearl designs. The boutique will also carry a curated selection of high jewellery creations, displayed in museum-style vitrines to showcase the remarkable craftsmanship and artistry of those rare creations.
To mark the boutique’s official opening, Mikimoto staged an event attended by its global brand ambassador, the Chinese actor Song Wei Long; and Thai actress Freen Sarocha.
Song highlighted the brand’s V Code and M collections as personal favourites, adding that he might opt for white pearls for a more elegant look, and black for a more avant-garde one. For the special evening, he wore a simple but radiant strand of golden South Sea pearls.
