Your secret to making a vibrant make-up look last well through the day For longevity, I always advocate skin prep. Having a proper base that suits your skin type is key for makeup last all day. And setting with a long-wear setting spray to make the powders last and keep their vibrancy.
My make-up style is avant-garde, experimental, colourful, and fun!
How has your Malaysian heritage and life in Canada influenced your personal style? I grew up feeling like I was in a purgatory. Growing up in a pre-dominantly caucasian area, I felt like I was too asian for the white kids and too white for the asian kids. I pitied myself during my teenage years but later in life realised that I could carve my own path and personal style as there was no rules set out for me.
A beauty trend that will dominate 2023 is going to be alienesque. A lot of metallics, appliqués, and opposing colour combinations.
My go-to scent is Mixed Emotions by Byredo, $260 for 100ml. It get compliments from everyone and is a beautiful, soft, gender neutral fragrance.
Current self-care ritual A lot of walks with my 11-year old husky, yoga, and makeup experimentation has been the key to my self care routine.
What does beauty mean to you? Beauty is comfortability and exploration. I’ve spent years finding myself and trying new things to get to this point. I feel the most beautiful and normal looking how I do.
Your beauty muse? Nature has given me the most inspiration since I started makeup. I always find myself being constantly drawn to the patterns and colours of nature.
A word of advice for new creatives looking to bloom in the industry It has taken me 5 years to get here so do not get discouraged if something doesn’t work out the first couple of tries. Don’t niche yourself down too hard at first. Take photos constantly to see your progress. And have fun! Makeup washes off at the end of the day so go crazy with it.
