Jonathan Anderson knows how to throw a spanner into the works—often enough, presenting refreshing silhouettes and shapes with every season in the game. But as he’s proven time and time again during his tenure at Loewe, just because there’s a whole load of fun on his runway, it never means that his clothes are not meant to live life in. More often than not, it’s the exact opposite. Take the house’s spring/summer 2024 collection for instance, there was simply no shortage of newness as chunky, longline sweaters met really, really high-waisted trousers on the runway. Or his recent display for fall/winter 2024 menswear: where cardigans, pants and half-belts all came rolling out as one—an active homage to the sartorial insouciance of today.
With the Loewe fall/winter 2024 show set to unfold later today in Paris, the mood in the City of Light is already joy-filled—as the fashion set prepare themselves to be met with the unexpected. A casual glean of the maison’s Instagram account may have left us with more puzzling clues than any certainty, but perhaps the endless portraits of artworks taken by iconic photographer David Sims only serve as an apt reminder of Anderson’s inclinations to art—something he continually works into his runway.
