If you’re the sort who would usually pass on heart jewellery because saccharine sweet designs aren’t quite your style, don’t write off John Hardy’s latest capsule collection just yet. Mad Love is the second creative collaboration with British model Adwoa Aboah, where the running motif is a skewed, hand-sketched heart that’s anything but perfect—and that’s just the way Aboah likes it.
These playful hearts are a nod to her multiple tattoos, symbolising the co-existence of power and vulnerability. John Hardy also took inspiration from Aboah’s freehand sketches as well as the autograph on her personal notes. Combined with the brand’s signature Classic Chain design, the pieces evoke strength, spontaneity, and oodles of edgy charm which is synonymous with Aboah as well as John Hardy.
These playful hearts are a nod to her multiple tattoos, symbolising the co-existence of power and vulnerability.
This is the second collaboration between the two; the first one was launched in 2018. Then, Aboah played the role of a muse rather than collaborator. Now, the model, actress and activist is a design partner bringing her own definition of love to the collection.
“It was important for me to work closely with John Hardy on this collection. Each design tells a meaningful story and can be given to a loved one or to yourself. I love getting jewellery for myself and the independence that it represents. Mad Love says what I can’t put into words: how much I care about that person or community. It’s my sign off for everything,” says Aboah.
Whether in reclaimed 14K gold or sterling silver, the seven key designs collectively represent Aboah’s trademark penchant for layering and stacking statement pieces. Wear the designed-to-customise Chain Heart necklace in multiple ways, or layer it with the Classic Chain Foxtail Heart necklace.
Take your pick from the range of earrings and studs—we especially love the Classic Chain set of three single stud earrings. Featuring a mix-and-match of hearts and a single bar, it conveys the collective “bold alone, stronger together” ethos that underpins Gurls Talk, Aboah’s female-empowerment platform.
“Radical inclusivity and unapologetic individuality are central to the John Hardy ethos,” explains CEO Kareem Gahed “Adwoa embodies these values through her self-expression and in how she shows up for her community. ‘Mad Love’ is a homage to that beautiful tenacity.”
