If you’re on the lookout for social and environmentally responsible jewellers, you don’t have to look too far. ByCanary, a new digital-first fine jewellery label, has launched in September, offering a range of accessible and expressive designs for the modern jewellery lover.
Backed by a veteran team at The Canary Diamond Co., a stalwart in Singapore’s jewellery scene, ByCanary pledges to use ethically-sourced gems and recycled fine metals in its collections. The brand sources stones from fair humanitarian miners and its pieces are minimally packaged in eco-friendly paper and cardboards.
At this point, its staple collections touch on basics such as alphabet rings, lucky charm motifs, zodiacs, birthstones, as well as stacking rings, diamond earrings, and other jewellery essentials.
Design junkies however might want to explore the bolder and more avant-garde aesthetics offered by The Modern Minimalist, the Mono, as well as the Prism collections. Think chunky oversized rings, gorgeous coloured stones facetted or polished, geometric shapes and contrasting colours, clashing textures… It’s the perfect blend of fashion design meets jewellery crafting.
To inaugurate its launch, ByCanary has worked with Malaysian footwear designer Ung Yiu Lin. One key feature of the Yiulin X ByCanary collection is modularity. It’s inspired by the designer-entrepreneur’s own lifestyle as a mother and businesswoman who buys her own diamonds and wears them as she pleases.
The White Gold Pear Head ring for instance offers a detachable centrepiece you could attach to any band of your choice. Simple and round, or octagonal and set with diamonds. You could also choose different cuts of stone such as emerald, round, or asscher.
The pieces are available in white, rose, and yellow gold, as well as blackened gold for an edgier touch. They are also sold individually and can be combined for a more dramatic look. Prices start at S$4,000 for earrings and go up to S$29,800 for the lariat necklaces.
As a socially conscious company, ByCanary will donate 10 per cent of profits from this collection to the Dignity for Children Foundation in support of children’s education.
