When we think of fashion couturiers, the qualities that define them extend far beyond functionality and artistry. While they excel in creating elegant pieces, what truly sets a couturier apart is their ability to push boundaries, fusing creativity with craftsmanship. Their vision often begins with an awareness of trends but evolves into something more—an expression of the seemingly unseen as well as a forward-thinking approach to fashion. What makes their work even more special is the uniqueness of each design, made with an intimate understanding of the human form. In a world dominated by convenient fashion, couturiers stand as the protectors of tradition, innovation, and elegance.

On 26 August 2024, this narrative was brought to life by Vietnamese couturier Chung Thanh Phong. One of Vietnam’s most celebrated fashion voices, the designer, born in Da Nang, has rapidly gained recognition for his signature creations: intricate, ethereal, and imaginative designs in a dazzling palette of white, silver, and gold. These unique masterpieces have graced the likes of superstars such as Fan Bingbing and Katy Perry.

The event, titled I Dreamed a Dream, fused innovation with heritage, accentuated by its location. Held at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, Chung Thanh Phong showcased his atmospheric expertise, transforming the resort’s ballroom into a surrealist-inspired space adorned with gleaming crystals and a glacier-like runway. The location’s architecture, formerly brought to life by American architect Bill Bensley—who is renowned for his striking, larger-than-life designs—was further enhanced by director Nguyễn Hiếu Tâm’s vision.
The result? A futuristic display featuring reflective aluminium, origami mastery, and seamless lighting. This set the stage for 80 haute couture pieces, created by Chung Thanh Phong and his team of 300. The audience, consisting of 140 esteemed VIPs, witnessed a selection of the designer’s most exclusive bridal creations.

Inspired by the concept of the ideal “fairytale dress” that every woman dreams of, the collection aimed to transport viewers to an idealistic world of wedding fantasies. The lineup featured a range of on-trend and popular designs, including princess and mermaid gowns, as well as more contemporary options with shorter, voluminous hemlines, butterfly-encrusted midi dresses, and feathered and plumed mini dresses.
