Sometimes a drum is heard before it is seen, commanding attention and causing heads to turn. Its robust, heart pounding beat marks momentous of occasions, conjuring the thrilling sensation of being alive. It is this very sense of power and vitality that is captured in the Song Collection, the latest line of fine jewellery by Chow Tai Fook that wears its bold, unexpected energy with convivial chic.
For many centuries, the drum has been a fixture of Chinese musical traditions; the ring-leader and commander of the room. Its rigorous reverberations have called people together and set the tempo of countless ceremonies. Chow Tai Fook has leaned into that grand presence, experimenting with scale and structure to let the essence of the drum’s commanding spirit shine.

In the Song Collection, the design has been stripped back to the drum’s most crucial attributes. The ridged texture of the musical instrument is carved through three-dimensional engraving on the surfaces, and the jewels are finely nano-layer polished to create a luminous, radiant look in high-carat 999 gold. The collection’s core motif has been designed with a two-part architecture: a smaller drum that represents heaven seated upon a larger one that represents the Earth. The two elements are meant to symbolise the connection and harmony between the realms of the celestial and the human, a link formed by the majestic, thunderous sounds of drums.
A common thread that runs through Chow Tai Fook’s modern collections is the transformation of Chinese characters into subtle design motifs, a way of making culture tangible and wearable. The Rouge Collection, launched in 2024 to mark the brand’s 95th anniversary, explored the character for fortune and prosperity, weaving its meaning into a fortuitous talisman. The Joie Collection took an even more introspective approach, building an entire collection around the Chinese character for happiness and the traditional symbol of a lock.
In the Song Collection, the character being reinterpreted is 颂 (sòng), which translates to mean an ode or praise. Geometric lines subtly echo the elements of the logographic symbol, such as square contours that represent the form of a home, interlocking triangular forms that recall an hourglass and the passage of time—the symbolism of blessings that last from one generation to the next.
Two drums, two realms connected by one powerful rhythm that calls people together. The Song Collection showcases the brand’s advanced goldsmithing techniques, imbuing its precious material with radiant elegance, a luminosity that is revealed with every twist and turn that catches the light. While the drum’s roar may fade, the beat travels on, echoing joy and good fortune for generations to come.
