With nostalgia for the 1970s and ’80s reaching fever pitch—from the unexpected return of Walkmans, iPods and wired headphones to the revival of Nokias and VHS tapes—it feels as though an entire generation is collectively rewinding. In Bangkok, this cultural revival has found a particularly vivid expression at the newly refurbished Talad Noi Warehouse, the city’s latest creative hotspot. Once an unassuming industrial shell steeped in history, the warehouse has been reimagined as a vibrant intersection of past and present: part flea market, part cultural playground, and wholly emblematic of a youth-led desire to rediscover analogue charm.

It was the ideal stage for Casio to debut Casio Vintage, an initiative that breathes new life into the brand’s greatest hits. Inside, the atmosphere was electric—rows of analog watches displayed like artefacts, blasts from the past humming with renewed relevance. Once fixtures on the wrists of students, skaters, math geeks and the effortlessly cool of decades past, these timepieces are now resurfacing among beatniks, die-hard collectors, fashion kids and retro romantics alike.

The standout moments for me? Pop culture collaborations with Back to the Future x Casio, and a Stranger Things tie-up already teased as the next chapter. First introduced in 1985, this little piece of wrist candy with a calculator was more than a watch—it was a portal. Holding it again, a wave of memories snapped back into focus. I’ll admit: I was never tech-savvy enough to master the calculator function, no matter how determined the teenage me was. But wearing it to school was a flex in itself; form over function, confidence over capability. And honestly, isn’t that what style is about—those moments when your senses are overtaken by an unexplainable spark of spontaneity?

From the sporty MW600F-2AF to slightly geeky Casio x Pac-Man A100WEPC-1B collab, there’s an undeniable appeal, a tactile honesty that digital sleekness simply can’t replicate. And when you build an entire world around it, from sets evoking the disco ’70s to the glam-meets-grunge attitude of the ’90s, complete with vintage stores selling graphic tees, Hawaiian shirts and handmade eyewear, the nostalgia becomes immersive. As if that wasn’t enough, the night wrapped with a wonderfully trippy lindy-hop performance, followed by an all-night drink session at the rooftop bar to end the launch on the perfect high of a throwback.
