Coming four years after the original Marvel film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever carries the irrefutable weight of Chadwick Boseman’s passing back in 2020. Apart from being fraught with an endless season of pandemic-induced delays, filming and production had undeniably also been upended by Boseman’s passing—resulting in a complete swivel with regards to the direction of the film.
Whilst avid comic book fans and Marvel enthusiasts questioned what would become of the sequel; the helming cast and crew—Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett and director Ryan Coogler—came together once again to give their strongest showing, in honour of the legacy Boseman was leaving behind. After all, the Black Panther franchise has long represented an inspirational movement for African and Black culture: visually imbued with empowering and nuanced influences that pointed to a rich heritage. The sequel definitely had to show for it as well, with vibrant costuming and musical flair all through the 161-minute picture.
And as far as red carpet moments go, we think it’s safe to say that the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever press tour has also been delivering on all accounts. As the film makes its rounds all around the globe, the A-list cast have been pulling out all the stops for their press appearances. Lupita Nyong’O has been one to keep an eye on; to the Hollywood premiere, she donned a one-shouldered Balmain number teamed with glinting De Beers jewellery. Letitia Wright paid a touching tribute to Boseman by wearing an Alexander McQueen blazer resembling the one he had worn to the Oscars in 2018.
