The idea of signature bracelets is a relatively new one to fine jewellery houses and brands. Credit might be given to Aldo Cipullo, who in 1969 introduced the world to a truly game-changing piece of design: the Cartier Love bracelet. Inspired as much by romance as the desire for a different, modern kind of jewellery, this genderless, all-gold bracelet was meant not as a status symbol object or something to be reserved only for special occasions.
Rather, Cipullo envisioned a future for jewellery where pieces could be worn everyday, with imbued meanings and romance that you could keep close to you at every moment. What sounds awfully simple and obvious now was, of course, a fresher thought a little over half a century ago. No doubt, however, that how fine jewellery is worn, and how it is being designed, has shifted very much in line with that spirit.
To wit: look to the collections of nearly every major jewellery brand and you will spot a line of signature bangle-style bracelets. There are exceptions to the rule, but a large majority of the time there will be models in plain 18K gold. If some of these jewellers are smart, as ones like Tiffany & Co. and Chanel have been this year with their Lock and Coco Crush collections respectively, they will have introduced slender models that take easily to stacking, and a mixed-and-matched look.
