At the BAFTAs 2023, our favourite stars got playful with their beauty looks again. While in past years–particularly those overshadowed by the pandemic–many played it safe, sticking with classic, old Hollywood-inspired looks for the red carpet, this year felt like a time for experimentation.
Take Jodie Turner-Smith and Lashana Lynch, both of whom wore rather fabulous diamanté embellishments around their eyes, to dazzling effect. Purple was another big trend of the night, with stars, including Lynch, showing off variations of the shade on lips and eyes. Even Cate Blanchett wore a haze of lilac eyeshadow, while Aimee Lou Wood opted for flattering metallic violet tones on her eyelids.
On the hair front, Emma Mackey, the winner of BAFTA’s Rising Star award, showed off an effortless cool-girl fringe, while Sophie Turner got her own set of curtain bangs chopped in for the occasion–it is hair that looks just as good off the red carpet as on it.
We’d be remiss not to mention Florence Pugh, too. With her micro-bangs and fanned-out up-do (by hairstylist Peter Lux), pink lip and immaculately groomed brows, she nailed the movie star brief, while still trying something new. Obsessed doesn’t cut it.
