Last weekend was a celebration of firsts. Vogue Singapore’s first-ever landmark three-day event Next In Vogue was held at The Singapore Edition, the first Southeast Asian venture of the hospitality group as part of the magazine’s third anniversary. Bringing together pivotal figures in both fashion and media for a range of roundtable-style talks, insightful discussions of the future of innovation and culture in fashion ensued. Within the space, there was also a Vogue Closet, an experiential showing of pieces hailing from coveted designers like Bad Binch Tong Tong and Miss Sohee. At the Vogue Glam Room, beauty aficionados attended various masterclasses and pop-ups that spanned from make-up to hair to nails with brands like Mudo Labs, KIKI World, Yann Beyrie, Dyson and SK-II.
On the night of 18 November, an exclusive gala dinner filled with style mavens and industry giants alike was undoubtedly the talk of the town. The opulent dinner was paired with an exclusive Singapore runway debut of Malaysian designer Kel Wen’s label Behati staged by fashion director Daniel Boey and show producer Mitch Leow—putting 19 of the brand’s best looks over the years centre stage. Born in Melaka, Malaysia, designer Kel Wen launched Behati (which translates to “having heart” or “blessing”) in 2018. Known for applying fresh proportions and materiality to otherwise traditional silhouettes like the Baju Melayu and sarees, Behati’s clothes capture quintessential qualities of nowness and identity.
With that perspective in mind, it felt fitting that Behati’s first show here is part of Vogue Singapore’s soiree. Albeit one being a fashion brand and the latter a publication, they share a similar ethos: a unique cultural lens hailing from the region with the desire to break boundaries and mediums.
Below, peruse the best of Behati’s looks that graced the gala’s runway.
