We’re almost there. Awards season has hit its close-to-final mark now, with the 2025 SAG Awards, or Screen Actors Guild Awards. Meant to celebrate the year’s best in film and television, this is the second to last major awards show on the circuit before the Oscars roll around on March 2.
On the red carpet of the 2025 SAG Awards this year, a tone of understatement. For the most part, the stars’ looks were a little subdued. Not to say there weren’t a number of standout moments. Sofia Carson, for one, wore with little question the most dazzling jewel of the night: a five-row Chopard high jewellery diamond necklace that managed to look simultaneously light and enormous. On the opposite end of this spectrum of size and spectacle, consider Sasheer Zamata who wore a slender diamond Y necklace by Shay jewellery. Paired with the cut of her dress, it had an outsized effect of sensuality.
What was really, truly, chic, though, were some of these celebrities who wore jewels and treasures of their own. Isabella Rossellini has style in her bones, and the fabulous ropes of pearls she wore to the SAG Awards had the chic of wisdom. Likely white and black-painted freshwater pearls, Rossellini has been photographed wearing the jewel to events since at least 2005. Ditto Michelle Yeoh, who rocks her diamond-set Richard Mille watches like few others can.
But the real element of surprise came, perhaps, from the men. Brooches on the red carpet are… not old news, exactly, but shall we say not as much of a surprise novelty as it used to be. It might then intrigue you that watches, that most traditional bit of precious accessorising for men, are getting interesting on the carpet. Take Timothée Chalamet, who brought out a 2005 Cartier Libre design, a Féline necklace watch, and styling it as a bolo to go with his Bob Dylan-inflected leather suit.
