Awards season has officially begun. The 2023 Golden Globes saw a medley of standout film and television stars—a genre distinction which means less and less as of late—hit the red carpet, providing a peek at the celebratory glamour to come as awards season kicks off.
Anya Taylor-Joy shook out her signature peroxide lengths, her hair moment furthered, somehow, by date and husband Malcolm McRae’s flawless mop top. Bailey Bass’s slicked and twisted updo pulled focus to delicate details—stylised edges, power brows—while Ana de Armas’s cat-eye liner coupled with a razor-sharp centre part and long, ironed layers in an echo of her structural Louis Vuitton. Emma D’Arcy debuted a grunge take on the ‘crying girl’ make-up trend: via thickly applied onyx liner giving way to a blue metallic tear, the punk-ish note pairing well with her shellacked coiffure.
And for Jenna Ortega, a departure from her now-iconic turn as Wednesday Addams came via a flippy, shoulder-skimming shag tinted burgundy, a two-toned cat eye and a nude pout that played off her ethereal Gucci gown. Michelle Yeoh—also evening’s winner of Best Actress in a Motion Picture for Musical or Comedy—shone in simple elegance with a natural flush afforded from her pinked cheeks and lips and her long, straight tresses pulled to hang over her right shoulder. But should we attempt to throne a winner for the night, perhaps no appearance was quite as glamorous as the pop queen herself: Rihanna. The super star walked in fashionably late to the Globes on the arms of her husband A$AP Rocky, pairing her trailing Schiaparelli look with an intricately sculpted updo, cascading ear jewels and a purposeful strand of fringe hair left to frame her face.
